Can you imagine what people are worrying about this week?
Valentine’s day…Whitney Houston’s death…and some people have also mentioned stuff about Madonna performing in Abu Dhabi…
Oh yea, and Syria is bleeding. While we enjoy a good filling meal and a warm cup of hot chocolate in this winter, our brothers and sisters in Syria are sitting scared in tight corners of their houses hoping that the bullets don’t reach them or their loved ones. There’s no security in their homes, in their cars or on the streets. If a serial killer was on the loose somewhere else, can you imagine the disruption that would cause to the city? Now what if those serial killers were the same people who are supposed to “protect” the people?
The number of people falling every day is just unbelievable and to think that the poor guys have been suffering for so long, it’s going to become a year soon. I know many people are shaking their heads in helplessness but we can help them too. This weekend, the Red Crescent began a campaign to collect donations for the Syrians displaced to Jordan and Lebanon. To make things easier, donations can be sent using one’s mobile phones. Just send an empty message to the following numbers (for phones that don’t accept to send empty messages, a simple ‘.’ would suffice) ;
Etisalat:
10 dirhams; 6881
50 dirhams; 6885
100 dirhams; 4611
200 dirhams; 5200
Du

100 dirhams; 7100
200 dirhams; 7200
As for the many more who are still in Syria, we can make sincere duaa for them. It’s not much but that’s the least we can do, don’t you think?
sb7anallah its a shame – thank you for this post. I didn’t know about this text message donation service.
THANK YOU! Took the words right out of my mouth (and made them look nice too
). It is just so unbelievably frustrating when someone completely filters out all that is happening to the world (“oh I hate watching the news – its so depressing”) only to suddenly show love and compassion at Whitney Houston’s death.
