In this sweltering heat, one hour before iftar time insha’Allah, it’s time to sit back and reflect on a lot of things – besides what we’re going to have for iftar. Let’s reflect on the blessings bestowed upon us. Let’s reflect on the poor and needy who would not have that many colorful dishes on their tables when the muezzin calls for prayers.
Imagine if it were you (God forbid but imagine nontheless), sleeping under a tent, the place you once called home flooded with water; gone forever. Imagine if it were your child crying out from the pain of hunger, but there’s nothing to feed him, the well-stocked fridge you once owned; gone forever. Imagine if it were your grandfather, hunched over a walking stick, standing in a long line with an empty silver dish in hand; the lavish dishes on iftar tables gone forever
But these scenes are happening to our people; our Muslim brothers and sisters in different countries; Palestine, Iraq and now Pakistan. How many times do we remember them in our duaas or are we so busy overfilling biryani plates until 500 tonnes of food gets thrown in the garbage as per this gulf news report; 500 tonnes of food wasted in Abu Dhabi during Ramadan/ ?
